Appeal

The judgment of the district court is open to appeal to a court of appeal. The district court will issue appeal instructions on its own initiative.

At times, also the prosecutor will appeal against the judgment of the district court, normally because of the charge having been dismissed or the penalty having been too lenient. The prosecutor is entitled to appeal also to the benefit of the convicted person, e.g. so as to have the penalty decreased.
