The data entered into the criminal records are secret. Registered data may only be submitted under the provisions of the Criminal Records Act. Further information about a private person's and some authorities' right of data acquisition is available on pages A Private Person's Right of Data Acquisition, Extract on Criminal Background and Authorities' Right of Data Acquisition.
A Corporation's Right to Obtain Data on Itself from the Criminal Records
A corporation has a free right to obtain an extract on itself from the criminal records. Besides, the right of inspection of data can be used on behalf of the corporation. The order for an extract or a request for inspection can be made by a person who has the right to write the name of the corporation.
Using the Right of Inspection of one's Personal Data under the Personal Data Act
Notwithstanding confidentiality, everyone is entitled to inspect the personal data on him/her even in the criminal records.
When a request for the inspection of one's personal data is answered by the Criminal Records Office, the data given in writing are neither countersigned nor stamped. The data are merely intended for the inspecting person's personal use and not to be further presented e.g. as a certificate of good conduct. When the Legal Register Centre answers an inquiry made by virtue of the right of inspection, the person is given all the data on him/her in the criminal records or notified of the lack of data. If a year at least has elapsed since the previous use of the right of inspection, the data are given free of charge.
On request, a person with an entry in the criminal records also has the right to find out who and for what purpose data on him/her have been given in the course of the preceding year. If there are no entries in the register, the inquiry data are not stored.
