The Vaasa Administrative Court was founded in 1999 and is seated in Vaasa. The court is a regional administrative court and, also, a national court in environmental matters. As a national court, the Court rules on appeals against administrative decisions on environmental licensing and water exploitation matters made by municipal authorities, regional environmental authorities and environmental licensing authorities under the Environment Protection Act and the Water Act.

As a regional administrative instance, the Court rules on appeals against administrative decisions by various municipal and state authorities concerning , e.g., health care and social security, taxation and construction and planning.

The Court consists of three divisions and an office department, led by a Chief Justice. Personnel strength is about 80, including judges, engineering and natural sciences judges, referendaries and office and technical staff. In 2010, the Court received 2 019 cases and resolved 2 219 cases. On an average, the circulation time for a case in the Court was about 8,8 months.
